Cristin Mortenson Tillinghast is Visiting Instructor of Musical Theatre, teaching Vocal Styles, Musical Theatre Rep, Career Prep, and Theatre Appreciation. She passionately believes that her students’ success is rooted in recognizing their intrinsic worth and cultivating empathy for themselves and others.
Beginning her performing journey at six years old, Cristin began the iconic role of Christine Daae in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera at 22. Over a distinguished 32-year career spanning Broadway, opera, and television, she naturally transitioned to teaching at the University of Utah and in her private Voice Studio. In 2009, she was honored with the Outstanding Alumni award from the College of the Desert for her impactful contributions to the arts, the same year she married her husband Jason and co-founded the CMT Voice Studio.
After retiring from full-time performing in 2014, Cristin shifted her talents to directing and music directing, where she continues to shape and elevate the performing arts. As a sought-after Guest Artist at Cornish College of the Arts and a master class conductor across the nation, she has empowered countless students, many of whom have successfully entered prestigious programs such as NYU Tisch and UCLA.
A testament to her dedication, Cristin is also an 11-time Ironman and a 7-time marathon finisher, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in all areas of her life. She and her husband share their home with six beloved cats, embodying their shared love for both the arts and the joy of life.
