Sonya Hemmen, EdD, is a Visiting Teacher of Education in the Center for Teacher Education. She teaches pedagogy at the undergraduate level and graduate instructional leadership classes, as well as coordinates the EDLD/EDTL programs.
Her courses model experiential and collaborative learning processes where students interact with content and concepts through multiple means. Dr. Hemmen has been a school leader in both conventional public and charter schools. Her published research focuses on strengthening instructional planning to maximize student learning and teacher collaboration. She holds Colorado K-12 licensure in teaching, principalship, and administration (superintendency). Sonya has lived in the Western Slope for 30 years and enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering, reading, photography, and overlanding.
