Biography

Jefferson Baker is a Colorado native from Grand Junction, with a family history rooted in Western Colorado for several generations. He earned his BA in History with a minor in English from Colorado Mesa University and an MA in History with a concentration in Public History from Southern New Hampshire University. His teaching experience includes US History and Political Science, and he is passionate about helping students build a deep, well-rounded understanding of the past and its relevance today. He values open, honest conversations in the classroom and strives to create an engaging and supportive learning environment. 

Before his academic career, he served 16 years in the US Army Military Police Corps, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, and later in the Colorado Army National Guard. He also worked as a research assistant for the Mesa County Veteran Service Officer, investigating historical records related to medical injuries, exposures and disability claims. Additionally, he has extensive experience in both public and academic libraries, helping students with research and academic projects. 

Baker enjoys traveling and aims to visit a new destination each year. Alaska is the only state he is yet to visit, which will complete his goal of seeing all 50 states.
