Christopher Howell, PhD, serves as history faculty at Colorado Mesa University and offers courses in United States, Western Civilization, World History and Global South courses utilizing experiential learning and AI in flipped online/classroom formats. Howell specializes in experiential field trips to the US Southwest and study abroad options to India and Ireland.

Howell has broad research interests and extensive publications that include the origins of higher education, diseases in history, world history places/spaces, war and society, and maritime history. His recent publications include the 2024 book History of Colorado Higher Education, the Plague of Athens in Epidemics and War, and an ongoing student/faculty collaboration OER text Twentieth-Century World History.

Howell has served as faculty in Washington, Colorado, Montana, and New Mexico as well as overseas in Turkey and India. He currently serves as co-advisor for the Phi Alpha Theta chapter and History Club at Colorado Mesa University.
